R.A.T. Days 71 - 77: Picture week

Taking advantage of this year's hurricane season to rediscover America. We're calling it the R.A.T. (Rediscover America Tour). While Sanibel sits on dry dock at Safe Cove boatyard in Port Charlotte, Florida, Jimi and I will be traveling 49 of the 50 U.S. States. Along the way we're going to recapture what America's made of, visiting out-of-the-way and well -known places, reconnecting with friends and family and  much more.

Day 71 - September 29th. We camped at the Olympic National Park

Total miles driven: 11,489
Driving along we saw this.

Day 72 - September 30th. We camped near the coast and had a blast taking pictures.

Total miles driven: 11,653
Jimi's reflection of the Pacific Coast on the Olympia Peninsula
.
The cave tree. As the ground has given away under this tree, a cave has been created and the tree roots adapt hanging on for life.

The Pacific is rockier than the Atlantic.

Gorgeous!

I love this - it reminds me of a Bob Ross painting.

We waited in this spot until someone came by to take our picture.

Day 73 - October 1st We spent the day hiking a couple of trails in the park and again loved taking pictures.

Total miles driven: 11,653
There are thousands of types of mushrooms. We played a game to see who could spot the most.
No one won, because we got sidetracked taking photos.

Could be a Smurf village in there.

Lorie (me) in picture taking mode.
Oh my...look at that hair.

Smile for the camera.

This is part of the root system.

I had a thing for spider webs and was on the hunt. This web was vacant.

These birds will take food directly from your fingers if you hold it in the air.

Day 74 - October 2nd. Drove to St. Helens, Oregon. There we stayed with a long time co-worker, Keith and Kirk in their beautiful log home.

Total miles driven: 11,892

Keith and Kirk recently replaced the railing around their deck that sits 11 feet high.
They did a beautiful job.

Day 75 - October 3rd. Keith and Kirk took us to town for some antiquing. We didn't score any vintage, but I did buy a pair of Rustic Bling Bling flip flops.

Total miles driven: 11,892
Kirk, Keith, Lorie & Jimi.

Day 76 - October 4th. We checked out the Columbia River Gorge and then went to Mt Hood National Forest.

Total miles driven: 11,969
Look out from the Vista House

Day 77 - October 5th. We camped in the Winena National Forest near Crater Lake.

Total miles driven: 12,146
 Latourell Falls
249 feet tall

A starry night.
