Taking advantage of this year's hurricane season to rediscover America. We're calling it the R.A.T. (Rediscover America Tour). While Sanibel sits on dry dock at Safe Cove boatyard in Port Charlotte, Florida, Jimi and I will be traveling 49 of the 50 U.S. States. Along the way we're going to recapture what America's made of, visiting out-of-the-way and well -known places, reconnecting with friends and family and much more.
Day 78 - October 6th. We spent the day at Crater Lake National Park

Day 79 - October 7th. Jimi surprised me with two nights at the Nugget Casino in Sparks, NV just outside Reno.

Day 80 - October 8th. Still at the casino. We gave ourselves $10 each to play with on the casino floor. I only spent a couple of dollars on penny slots. Jimi spent a couple of dollars on penny slots as well, but then doubled his money on the roulette table. By our calculations with the free drinks (2 each) the casino is down $20.

Day 81 - October 9th. We drove to Yosemite National Park and camped for the night.

Day 82 - October 10th. We drove through Yosemite National Park and then towards Lake Isabella.
Total miles driven: 13,179
Tent camping in Yosemite. Too many folks too close together for us.
This is supposed to be Lake Isabella The drought in California has caused it to dry up.
Day 83 - October 11th. We drove through Death Valley National Park in California.
Total miles driven: 13,456
This coyote listened very carefully as I talked to him from the van.
We woke this one from a nap. He stretched and then walked away.
This road NEVER ends.
We made it to the lowest point in North America.
Even though it's below sea level, there's no need for a snorkel.

Day 84 - October 12th. We landed ourselves in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before checking in to our hotel, we stopped by the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop aka the TV show Pawn Stars.
